TítuloBall Sharing and Intercultural play, Players and Dancers A comparison of experiences before the Rubber ball
Resumo

Our research -Ball Sharing and Intercultural play, Players and Dancers: A comparison of experiences before the Rubber ball- confronts issues related to autonomy, discrimination and conflict between diverse communities of hip-ulama ball players from different regions of modern day Mexico: Maya, Olmeca, Teotihuacano, Aztec, Tzotzil and Sinaloan players.
It seeks to understand the modern dispersion of an ancient Mesoamerican practice (ulama and pok ta pok) by placing emphasis on the study of the manufacture of the rubber ball within communities belonging to different identities seeking the preservation of an ancestral game.
It shows how the shortage of rubber balls, a fundamental element to the game, once traditional dancers started playing the rubber ball game in their communities and traditional knowledge of ball making came to be lost, has issued a collaboration between groups in so much as it has generated individual efforts to manufacture rubber balls taking hold of ancestral traditions and seeking other solutions .
After registering local experiences and following the players´ and their teams´ narratives forged on contemporary and historical constructs, our collaboration seeks to present a methodology tailored to community participation, that considers identities and the transposicion of identities, from interculturality, a key element to our research based on observation, interviews and on a participatory workshop that mediates between conflicting narratives to measure the results of the configuration of our project.
