ICA 2021 will have 22 thematic axes (see the complete list below). In the first phase, between May and November 2019, researchers will be able to present thematic group proposals (GTs) within one of the 22 axes. The basic rule is to choose a topic that is related to the selected GT and that is proposed by two coordinators from two different countries. The second stage, once the list of approved GTs is disclosed, will be the opening of a new period (from January to June 2020) for the submission of articles destined for the different GTs.

Call for proposals for Thematic Groups (TGs)
The Organizing Committee led by Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste do Paraná – Unicentro (Midwestern Paraná State University), is pleased to invite the university community from all over the world to present Thematic Groups (TGs) proposals for the 57th International Congress of Americanists (ICA 2021) that will be held in the Brazilian city of Iguassu Falls (Foz do Iguaçu, in Portuguese), between July 19th and 23rd 2021, on the Triple Border Argentina/Brazil/Paraguay, bringing together more than 7,000 scientists from 80 countries.
Stem from 22 predefined axes (list below), the TGs should be proposed by two researchers from different countries and address related issues specially in the Human and Social Sciences, focusing on the Americas and Caribbean area.
To present the proposals, the interested parties should fill out the form between 16th May and 30th October 2021, through the ICA 2021 website (ica2021.unicentro.br), informing: title of the proposed TG, a short text up to 2.000 characters indicating the purpose of the TG and 3 to 5 keywords. Besides that, the proposers should enter full names, institution and country of origin. It should be emphasized that only one of the two proponents should carry out the submission. The Scientific Committee of ICA 2021 will accept proposals in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
As in the previous 56 editions (the first edition occurred still in the 19th century, in 1875), ICA 2021 seeks to foster interdisciplinarity and reaffirm its inclusive character. Therefore, proposals that stimulate the contact, the exchange and the formation of networks of researchers that turn to the specificities of the American Continent, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, through the Caribbean, in political, economic, cultural, historical, linguistic, and other analyzes, as can be seen below, are particularly interesting:
